Murtuza Shahiwala

Murtuza Shahiwala is an Indian entrepreneur and co-founder of Argos Watch Company, a homegrown horological brand established in 2022. Based in Surat, Gujarat, Shahiwala launched the venture alongside co-founders including Mukarram Shahiwala, with the objective of providing high-quality mechanical timepieces to the Indian market at an accessible price point.

Under Shahiwala’s leadership, Argos was conceived as a “Made-in-India” alternative to expensive imported watches. The brand focuses on the production of automatic and mechanical timepieces, distinguishing itself from many domestic competitors that primarily utilize quartz technology. Shahiwala has been instrumental in overseeing a meticulous four-stage production process that encompasses concept development, 3D visualization, manufacturing, and quality control.

One of the significant milestones during Shahiwala’s tenure was the launch of the Apollo II collection, which features mechanical movements such as the Seagull ST1901. His approach to brand development emphasizes transparency and technical value for watch enthusiasts, often incorporating premium materials like Italian suede and leather for straps and stainless steel for cases.

Beyond product design, Shahiwala has played a key role in the company’s commercial growth. Since its incorporation in July 2022, Argos has successfully raised over $750K in seed funding to scale its operations. Shahiwala remains a central figure in the brand’s mission to blend traditional mechanical watchmaking with modern Indian entrepreneurship, contributing to the growing landscape of independent Indian microbrands.
