Horizon

Horizon is an independent watch brand established in 2012 and based in Singapore. The brand was co-founded by Ukrainian watch designer Fred Bekher, a veteran of the microbrand industry, and Singaporean watch entrepreneur Sugiharto Kusumadi. Their partnership began after meeting online and was driven by a shared interest in blending narrative-driven design with horological craftsmanship.

The brand’s identity is heavily influenced by exploration and adventure stories, specifically the literary works of Jules Verne, such as Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. Enthusiasts are often drawn to Horizon watches for their ability to integrate these maritime and steampunk themes into functional timepieces. Design details like “top hat” sapphire crystals, textured dials, and creative case constructions—designed to highlight contrasts between polished and brushed surfaces—are frequently cited as reasons for the brand’s popularity among collectors.

The Horizon catalog features several key collections that reflect this thematic approach. The brand’s debut series, the Nautilus (or “N”), is named after Captain Nemo’s submarine and is recognized for its robust dive watch specifications and distinct two-part case. Following this, the Pilgrim was introduced as a super-compressor style diver, featuring a sand-blasted dial and a caseback engraved with a sailing ship and a whale. Another central model is the Nemo, a 40mm dive watch that utilizes reliable automatic movements such as the Seiko NH35A or Miyota 9039. Technical innovations like the “MicroSlider” adjustment system on their clasps also characterize their newer releases.
