Judith Borowski

Judith Borowski is a prominent figure in the contemporary German watchmaking industry, recognized for her long-term leadership role at the independent manufacture Nomos Glashütte. Born in 1969, Borowski’s professional background was originally rooted in journalism and the social sciences. She pursued academic studies in criminology, art, and political science in Zurich and Hamburg before attending a prestigious journalism school in Hamburg. Her early career included editorial positions in television and print media, notably working for ARD Aktuell and the Financial Times Deutschland.

Borowski’s transition into the horological world began in 2001 when she was invited by Roland Schwertner, the founder of Nomos Glashütte, to handle the company’s press relations. At the time, Nomos was a small but growing enterprise based in Berlin and the historic watchmaking town of Glashütte. This initial collaboration evolved significantly, and by 2004, Borowski had become a shareholder and co-managing director of the company.

In her capacity as a leader at Nomos Glashütte, Borowski has been primarily responsible for brand design and communication. She established and leads Berlinerblau, the brand’s creative subsidiary based in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Under her direction, this in-house agency manages the complete aesthetic identity of the brand, including watch design, typography, packaging, and marketing campaigns. Borowski is often credited with maintaining the brand’s distinct “neo-vintage” and Bauhaus-inspired aesthetic, emphasizing reduced, functional design and a focus on essential details.

Beyond her technical and creative contributions, Borowski has been a vocal advocate for corporate social responsibility. Under her leadership, Nomos Glashütte has taken public stances on social and political issues, promoting values of tolerance, openness, and democracy. This commitment was recognized in 2020 when she was named “Woman of the Year” in the marketing category by the industry publication Horizont.

In late 2024, after more than two decades with the company, Borowski announced her departure from Nomos Glashütte. During her tenure, she helped transform the manufacture into Germany’s largest producer of mechanical watches. Her career is characterized by the successful integration of traditional German craftsmanship with modern, urban design sensibilities, securing her legacy as a key architect of the brand’s global identity.
