The Nomos Tangente, launched in 1992, was one of the first watches from the Glashütte brand. It is a round, hand-wound watch with a slim steel case, a white dial with thin black hands and Arabic numerals, and a seconds subdial at six o’clock. Early watches used a modified base movement, and the brand later developed its own in-house calibres. I could not find reliable official figures for the 1992 case size, so it is not stated here.
The design follows the Bauhaus tradition: the name refers to the tangent where the minute track touches the numerals, and every element serves legibility. Nomos was founded in 1990 after German reunification and chose to build on German design as well as on the Glashütte watchmaking heritage.
The Tangente is the core Nomos model and a widely recommended entry to design-led mechanical watches. It remains in production in many versions.
