Scott Devon is an American entrepreneur, creative director, and conceptual artist best known as the founder and CEO of Devon Works, a California-based design lab. Born into a business-oriented family, his professional career is characterized by a focus on luxury products that blend advanced engineering with disruptive design.
Before entering the horological industry, Devon established his reputation in the automotive sector. In 2008, he founded Devon Motorworks and led the development of the Devon GTX, an American supercar. The vehicle achieved significant recognition in the automotive world by setting one-lap records at the Laguna Seca and Willow Springs raceways.
Following his success in automotive design, Devon transitioned into watchmaking with the launch of the Devon Tread 1 in 2010. Developed in Pasadena, California, the timepiece gained international attention for its unconventional movement, which utilizes a patented system of four interwoven “Time Belts” driven by micro-motors rather than a traditional mechanical escapement. The innovation was significant enough to earn Devon Works a nomination for the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) in the Design and Concept Watch category, marking the first time an American brand received such an honor.
Under Devon’s leadership, the brand expanded its horological offerings with the Tread 2 and various limited editions, including the Tread 1 Steampunk and a Star Wars-themed collaboration. He has consistently positioned Devon Works as a “tech company” rather than a traditional watch manufacture, drawing inspiration from aerospace technology and industrial machinery.
Beyond watchmaking, Devon has diversified his business interests into other luxury categories, including fashion, motorcycles, and premium spirits. He also serves as the CEO and chairman of Cole’s Quality Foods, a family-owned bakery business based in Michigan. His approach to product development continues to emphasize a collaborative model, working with aerospace engineers and specialized designers to create products that challenge established category norms.
