About this watch

The first-generation Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean, launched in 2005, is a 45.5 mm stainless steel diver with a water resistance of 600 metres, a helium escape valve, a unidirectional rotating bezel and a co-axial automatic movement. The earliest models carry references in the 2900 series, and the watch was sold on a bracelet or rubber strap with a black or blue dial. I could not confirm every detail of the movement across variants from a single source.

It extended the Seamaster professional range with a more rugged, larger-cased diver and was worn by James Bond in Casino Royale in 2006. Omega redesigned it in 2011 in a 42 mm size with an in-house movement.

Collectors and owners praised its legibility and build and criticised its size, which many found large. The first generation is no longer produced, while the Planet Ocean line continues in later versions.
