About this watch

The Omega Constellation “Manhattan”, launched in 1982, is a quartz Constellation with a case in steel, or in steel and gold, and a distinctive set of “claws” (griffes) that grip the bezel at the four corners. The earliest watches run Omega’s quartz calibre 1420 or 1422 and have a date window, a Roman-numeral or baton dial and an integrated bracelet. I did not find reliable official figures on the case sizes.

The claws are the watch’s signature and were a break from the sleek Constellation of the 1960s. The Manhattan was popular in the 1980s and 1990s, and the model was marketed in the 1990s with the model Cindy Crawford as Omega’s ambassador.

Collectors see the Manhattan as an affordable and recognisable 1980s Omega, though it is less valued than the earlier mechanical Constellations. The original is long out of production, and the Constellation name continues in Omega’s current collection.
