Jon Mack

Jon Mack is the founder and visionary behind Traska, an independent American watch brand established in 2018. Based in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, Mack’s journey into horology began with a passion for vintage watch collecting. A defining moment for the brand’s conception occurred when Mack accidentally ruined a vintage 1966 Bulova while swimming in the sea in Vietnam. This experience sparked the idea to create timepieces that combined vintage aesthetics with modern durability and water resistance.

Before officially launching Traska, Mack spent three years living in China. During this period, he immersed himself in the manufacturing industry, visiting numerous factories to understand production processes and establish relationships with suppliers. His goal was to achieve high-quality manufacturing standards, often compared to those of much larger luxury brands, while maintaining accessible pricing for enthusiasts.

In April 2018, Mack launched Traska’s debut model, the Freediver, through a Kickstarter campaign. The project was fully funded within hours, signaling strong market interest in his vision for a “go anywhere, do anything” watch. Under his leadership, the brand has expanded its catalog to include several collections, such as the Summiteer, Commuter, Seafarer, and Venturer.

Mack’s approach to watchmaking is characterized by a philosophy of continuous improvement and “EDC” (Everyday Carry) restraint. He is known for iteratively refining existing models, focusing on technical enhancements like proprietary anti-scratch steel hardening treatments and improved proportions. Operating as a community-driven microbrand, Mack remains a central figure in the brand’s daily operations, emphasizing transparency, functional design, and a close connection with the watch-collecting community.
