Cameron Weiss is a Swiss-trained and certified master watchmaker and the founder of the Weiss Watch Company. His professional journey is defined by a commitment to reviving the tradition of American horology through domestic manufacturing and artisanal craftsmanship.
Born in 1985 in California, Weiss developed an interest in timepieces as a young child, famously attempting his first watch repair at age five. This childhood fascination evolved into a lifelong pursuit; for his high school graduation, he requested watchmaking tools and books rather than traditional gifts. Although he initially pursued business administration at the University of Southern California, he continued to study engineering and CAD design independently before committing fully to a career in horology.
Weiss received his formal training at the Nicolas G. Hayek Watchmaking School in Miami, where he completed a two-year, apprentice-style program and earned his Watchmakers of Switzerland Training and Educational Program (WOSTEP) certification. Following his education, he gained experience at prestigious Swiss manufactures, including Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin, where he worked in both US and Swiss service departments. These roles allowed him to master complex mechanical movements and observe the high standards of European luxury manufacturing.
In 2013, Weiss founded the Weiss Watch Company in Los Angeles alongside his wife, Whitney. His mission was to restore prestige to American watchmaking by producing mechanical timepieces that are designed, machined, and hand-assembled in the United States. The brand’s first release consisted of ten Standard Issue Field Watches, each requiring 300 hours of hand-finishing and assembly. Unlike many modern brands that rely on off-the-shelf components, Weiss focused on producing his own cases, dials, and movement parts, including the Caliber 1003, which features plates and bridges machined from domestic aerospace-grade aluminum.
In 2020, Weiss relocated his family and atelier to Nashville, Tennessee, where he continues to lead the brand as master watchmaker. His operations are housed in a historic building that formerly served as a vinyl record print shop, reflecting his interest in preserving industrial heritage. Beyond manufacturing, Weiss is active in the horological community as an educator, using digital platforms and workshops to teach others about the mechanics and history of traditional watchmaking. His work remains focused on creating heirloom-quality timepieces that bridge the gap between traditional Swiss precision and American industrial ingenuity.
