About this watch

The Zenith G.F.J., reference 40.1865.0135/51.C200, is a hand-wound time-only dress watch in 950 platinum. The case measures 39.15 mm in diameter, 10.5 mm thick and 45.75 mm from lug to lug, with stepped edges, sapphire crystals front and back and 50 m water resistance. The multi-part dial combines a central disc of lapis lazuli, a small-seconds subdial in blue-dyed mother-of-pearl and a chapter ring with a brick-pattern guilloché inspired by the Le Locle manufacture, finished with applied white gold markers and solid white gold hands. Inside is the revived calibre 135, a 13-ligne (30 mm) manual movement beating at 18,000 vph (2.5 Hz) with a 14 mm balance, an overcoil hairspring, a stop-seconds device and a 72-hour power reserve. It is COSC-certified and regulated by Zenith to plus or minus 2 seconds per day.

The name honours Georges Favre-Jacot, who founded Zenith in 1865, and the watch was launched at Watches and Wonders in April 2025 for the brand’s 160th anniversary. The original calibre 135 was made from 1949 to 1962 and won 235 prizes at Swiss observatory chronometry trials. Zenith has now put the calibre back into production with modern upgrades, including a power reserve nearly double the original’s 40 hours, and the movement carries the same brick-pattern decoration as the dial. The G.F.J. is limited to 160 pieces at USD 49,900 (GBP 44,900) and comes with a dark blue alligator strap plus black calfskin and blue Saffiano calfskin straps. A platinum bracelet is available separately for roughly USD 50,000 more.

The G.F.J. received the Chronometry Prize at the 2025 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. Time and Tide called it a strong contender for best watch of the year, praising the lapis dial, the guilloché, the weight of the platinum case and the three included straps. SJX was initially unconvinced by the dial and movement decoration in press photos, finding the brick pattern busy, but after handling the watch praised the case finishing, the hand-finished movement, the 50 m water resistance and the tight regulation, and called it a very fine watch. The main reservations concerned the price, especially with the bracelet. As a limited edition of 160 pieces, the G.F.J. will not be produced beyond that run, and it remains listed as a limited edition as of October 2026.
