The Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 Silicium, reference T127.407.11.051.00, is an everyday automatic watch from Tissot‘s Classic Contemporary range. It has a 40mm case in 316L stainless steel that is 11.5mm thick, with a matching stainless steel bezel and a 21mm lug width. The black dial uses index hour markers, and the hands are treated with Super-LumiNova for legibility in low light. A sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on its underside protects the dial. Power comes from the Swiss-made Powermatic 80 automatic movement, which runs at 3Hz and offers up to 80 hours of power reserve, and this version uses Tissot‘s patented silicon balance spring. Water resistance is 10 bar, or 100 metres.
Alongside hours, minutes and seconds, the watch has a date display. A see-through caseback shows the automatic movement, and Tissot says the silicon balance spring gives greater resistance to the magnetic fields produced by everyday objects such as mobile phones, computers and the magnetic closures on handbags. The watch is supplied on a stainless steel bracelet, reference T605044607, fastened with a butterfly clasp with push-buttons, and the complete watch weighs 164 grams according to Tissot. The 21mm lug width also leaves room to fit a leather or other aftermarket strap. Tissot lists the official US price at $950 and covers the watch with a two-year warranty.
Reviewers widely describe the Gentleman Powermatic 80 Silicium as a strong value and an effective entry point into Swiss mechanical watchmaking. Worn & Wound praised its versatile design, sculpted applied markers, long power reserve and silicon hairspring, while Monochrome highlighted its suitability for both office and weekend wear and the quality of the case for the price. The criticisms are fairly consistent. The bracelet is considered heavy and would benefit from more taper, the date window sits close to the centre of the dial, the movement finishing is simple, and the design is not especially original. Some reviewers would also prefer a smaller case. The Gentleman Powermatic 80 Silicium is currently in production and available to order from Tissot‘s official website.
