About this watch

The Timex Marlin 1965 Reissue Hand-Wound TW2R47900 is a modern reissue of a 1960s Timex dress watch. Its round case is polished stainless steel and measures 34 mm in diameter and 10 mm in height, with an 18 mm lug width, and the watch weighs only 31.3 g. The silver-tone sunburst dial combines stylized Arabic numerals with baton markers and slim black hands. It sits under a vintage-style domed acrylic crystal. The watch uses a mechanical hand-wound movement, which Timex does not name and which has to be wound through the crown, ideally at the same time every day. Timex does not publish a power reserve figure. Water resistance is rated at 30 meters, which Timex says covers hand-washing and accidental splashes but not swimming.

The Marlin shows hours, minutes and central seconds, with no date. It comes on a black lizard-embossed leather strap with a standard buckle. The 34 mm hand-wound Marlin has also been produced with other dials, and Timex offers larger automatic Marlin models for buyers who want a self-winding movement. The current list price on Timex’s US website is USD 259.

Reviewers like the Marlin reissue as a faithful and affordable piece of mid-century design. In its hands-on review, A Blog to Watch praised the silver sunburst dial and the applied, boxed cardinal hour markers, and said it offers a vintage look “without the worry” of owning an old watch. The same review noted the downsides: the 34 mm case is “objectively small,” the acrylic crystal scratches easily, the lume is “rather underwhelming,” the small crown is hard to grip, and the Chinese-made movement is roughly finished and has no hacking seconds. Gear Patrol also covered the Marlin line favorably. The TW2R47900 is currently in production and sold on Timex’s official US website.
