The Timex Indiglo, introduced in 1992, is a quartz watch fitted with an electroluminescent night-light. Pressing the crown or a button lights the whole dial with an even blue-green glow, which is a very different effect from the painted lume used on most watches. The feature first appeared on Timex’s sports models such as the Triathlon, in a resin case with a water resistance of about 30 to 100 metres depending on the model; Indiglo is a feature that appears across many Timex watches, not a single reference, so no one set of specifications applies.
The electroluminescent panel sits behind a translucent dial and lights up without a bulb. Timex made it a signature, branded it “Indiglo” and put it on watches from cheap basic models to its sport lines, and it became a selling point in the 1990s when readability in the dark mattered to runners, nurses and anyone else who needed to see the time at night.
The community remembers Indiglo as a simple, effective piece of 1990s technology rather than a collector’s grail, and early Triathlon examples are cheap and easy to find. The feature is still in production on current Timex ranges, so only the original 1992 models are out of production.
