The Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime reference 5175, presented in 2014 for the brand’s 175th anniversary, is a reversible-case wristwatch with 20 complications and a hand-wound calibre made of 1,366 parts, per Patek’s published figures. It is in a 47.7 mm case, with one dial for the time and calendar functions and a second on the reverse for the perpetual calendar and further displays. Its chiming functions include a grande and petite sonnerie and a minute repeater.
It was the most complicated Patek Philippe wristwatch ever made at the time, and press coverage described it as among the most complicated wristwatches in the world, with a price reported at around 2.6 million dollars. Patek’s own material describes several patents in its development.
Collectors treat the 5175 as a grail piece and a showcase for the maker, although its price kept it largely in the hands of a few. Patek replaced the 5175 with the 6300 Grandmaster Chime in 2019, so the 5175 is no longer made.
