The MB&F Horological Machine N°1, or HM1, was the first watch from MB&F, the independent brand founded by Maximilian Büsser, and appeared in 2007. It is a sculptural, three-dimensional watch in a precious-metal case, with the movement left visible and the time shown on an oversized display. The movement was developed for MB&F by independent specialists, with Jean-François Mojon among the contributors. I did not find a reliable source for the detailed specifications, so sizes and power reserve are not stated here.
The HM1 launched the Horological Machines series, MB&F’s way of treating a watch as kinetic art rather than a classic timepiece. It was made in small limited editions in different metals, and its radical form opened the door to a series of increasingly unusual designs.
Collectors regard the HM1 as the origin of MB&F and a landmark of 21st-century independent watchmaking. The original HM1 editions were limited runs and are no longer in the catalogue, while the brand continues to release Horological Machines.
