About this watch

The IWC Ingenieur Automatic 42 Black Ceramic, reference IW338903, is an integrated-bracelet sports watch made almost entirely of black ceramic. The case, bezel, crown, caseback ring and bracelet are ceramic, and the bracelet closes with a titanium butterfly folding clasp. The case measures 42 mm in diameter and 11.6 mm thick, with brushed surfaces, polished bevels and the five screw-heads on the bezel that define the modern Ingenieur. Water resistance is 100 m. The black dial carries the Ingenieur grid motif, baton markers and a black date disc at 3 o’clock under a sapphire crystal. A smoked sapphire caseback shows the IWC-made calibre 82110, a self-winding movement with a Pellaton double-pawl winding system and a 60-hour power reserve.

IWC presented the model at Watches and Wonders in April 2025. It is the first fully ceramic version of the Ingenieur line relaunched in 2023, whose integrated design derives from Gérald Genta’s work, and at 42 mm it is larger than the 40 mm steel and titanium models. Despite the size, the ceramic construction makes it lighter on the wrist than the titanium Ingenieur Automatic 40. The calibre 82110 replaces the 32111 used in other Ingenieur models, trading a 120-hour power reserve for 60 hours but adding the Pellaton winding. The launch price was USD 19,500 (GBP 16,800); by 2026 authorised US retailers listed it at USD 22,700. It is sold through IWC boutiques and retailers.

Time and Tide called it one of the most stylish watches IWC has made in recent memory and a knock-out piece, praising the comfort, the light play on the brushed and polished ceramic and the look of the movement; its one reservation was the shorter power reserve compared with the 32111, which it did not consider a dealbreaker. Oracle of Time described it as the toughest watch in the 2025 Ingenieur line-up and argued that the price is more defensible than it first appears given the ceramic construction, although it is a sizeable step up from the steel 40 mm models. Aggregated pre-owned listings show examples trading below retail. The Ingenieur Automatic 42 Black Ceramic is part of IWC’s regular collection and remains in production as of October 2026.
