About this watch

The IWC Ingenieur Automatic 35 is a scaled-down version of the 40 mm Ingenieur introduced in 2023. The reference IW324901 has a stainless steel case measuring 35.1 mm in diameter and 9.4 mm thick, with a lug-to-lug length of 40.7 mm. The case and bezel are brushed with polished chamfers, and the bezel keeps the five functional screws. Water resistance is 100 m, although the crown does not screw down. A sapphire crystal covers the dial and a sapphire caseback shows the movement. The silver-plated dial carries the Ingenieur grid texture, applied baton indices and a date window at 3 o’clock. Power comes from the in-house IWC calibre 47110, an automatic movement running at 28,800 vph (4 Hz) with a 42-hour power reserve. It shows hours, minutes, seconds and date.

IWC presented the Ingenieur Automatic 35 at Watches and Wonders in April 2025. SJX linked the smaller size to the 1990s reference 3521. The launch line-up had three references: IW324901 in steel with a silver dial, IW324906 in steel with a black dial, and IW324903 in 18k 5N red gold with a gold-plated dial and solid gold indices. A steel version with a turquoise dial followed in mid-2025. All versions come on an integrated H-link bracelet with a butterfly clasp. The steel models launched at USD 9,950 and the red gold model at USD 37,500. By October 2026 Fratello listed the steel model at USD 10,500 before tax, EUR 11,300 and GBP 8,900.

SJX called it a faithful, streamlined version of the 40 mm model and praised the case and bracelet execution, but described the movement as middling and the price as high. In a one-week review, Fratello found that it wore closer to a 37 mm watch, stayed legible and felt comfortable. The same review criticised the fiddly butterfly clasp, the lack of micro-adjustment, the short power reserve and a silver dial that can wash out in strong sun. Watch Advice scored the gold version 8.75 out of 10 and named the plain rotor and the loss of the soft-iron anti-magnetic cage as weak points. Oracle of Time noted that 35 mm is small for an integrated-bracelet sports watch and suits slimmer wrists. As of October 2026 the Ingenieur Automatic 35 remains in production in the regular IWC catalogue.
