The Grand Seiko SLGH005, known as “White Birch” (Shirakaba), was launched in 2021. It has a 40 mm stainless steel case and a textured white dial, and it runs the automatic Hi-Beat calibre 9SA5 at 36,000 vibrations per hour with a power reserve of about 80 hours. It has a sapphire crystal and a display caseback.

The dial pattern is inspired by the white birch forests of Japan’s Shinshu region, near the Grand Seiko studio, and it is the signature of the watch. The 9SA5 movement was Grand Seiko’s first new high-beat movement in decades and uses a new escapement.

The SLGH005 was well received and is often cited as one of the best Grand Seikos for its dial and its movement. The model is part of the Evolution 9 collection and is in the current catalogue.
