About this watch

The Grand Seiko Tokyo Lion Tentagraph, reference SLGC009, is an automatic chronograph in the angular Tokyo Lion case of the Sport Collection. The case is made of Brilliant Hard Titanium and measures 43 mm in diameter and 15.6 mm thick, with an octagonal titanium bezel, lion-inspired chronograph pushers, a screw-down crown, a curved caseback and 200 m water resistance. Sapphire crystals cover the dial and the caseback. The brown dial has an uneven horizontal striated texture, with oversized luminous hands and markers, three applied bowl-shaped subdials and a date at 6 o’clock. Inside is the in-house calibre 9SC5, a column-wheel chronograph with a vertical clutch, based on the 9SA5 architecture, running at 36,000 vph (5 Hz) with twin barrels, a free-sprung balance with an overcoil hairspring and a 72-hour power reserve.

Grand Seiko announced the SLGC009 at Watches and Wonders in April 2025 and delivered it from August 2025 through boutiques and selected retailers. It moves the Tentagraph chronograph out of the Evolution 9 case and into the Tokyo Lion design, and drops the sapphire bezel insert of the earlier Tentagraph. It comes on an integrated brown rubber strap designed for the watch, with a titanium single-fold clasp. The announced price was USD 16,400, and SJX reported USD 16,900 at the time of delivery, about USD 2,200 more than the Evolution 9 Tentagraph on a titanium bracelet. In Japan it sells for JPY 2,310,000 including tax.

Reception was mixed on design and positive on execution. SJX welcomed the clearer sports direction, praised the refined subdials, the tactile pushers and the improved movement bridges, and found the curved caseback helped it sit close to the wrist. It criticised the price, the thickness, the strap’s integration with the case, an uncomfortable clasp and a minutes counter that advances continuously, and called the design polarising. Time and Tide liked the curved caseback and bespoke rubber strap but expected some buyers to find the case too large, and was unsure about the bright brown dial and the asymmetric subdial colours. A WatchProSite review also described the look as polarising but ultimately appealing. The SLGC009 is a regular-production model, not a limited edition, and remains in production as of October 2026.
