Bvlgari Bvlgari 1977
Bvlgari Bvlgari · Bvlgari Bvlgari 1977
The Bvlgari Bvlgari, launched in 1977, is a round dress watch with the brand name engraved twice on the bezel, once at each side of the dial, in the manner of the inscription on an ancient Roman coin. The first versions were mostly gold, with a simple dial and a slim case; I could not find reliable official specifications for the earliest models, so sizes and movements are not given here.
The double logo was a deliberate break with the usual discreet dial signatures of the time, and it became the house’s signature, later reused on jewellery and other watches. The Roman-coin reference ties the watch to Bulgari’s Italian roots.
Collectors see the Bvlgari Bvlgari as a stylish 1970s dress watch that stands apart from its Swiss contemporaries. Bulgari brought it back in 2024 in solid-gold models of about 38 mm, so the design is again in production, although the original 1970s watches are not.
