The A. Lange & Söhne Datograph, introduced in 1999, is a hand-wound flyback chronograph with an outsize date and a jumping minute counter. It has a case of about 39 mm in gold or platinum, and runs the in-house calibre L951.1, with over 400 parts, a three-quarter plate and a hand-engraved balance cock. The first references were 403.031 in pink gold and 403.035 in platinum.
The Datograph was the first chronograph the revived Saxon house made, and it combined a flyback function, a precise stop-and-reset action and a clear dial. Its name comes from the German for date and chronograph.
Collectors and critics regard it as one of the finest modern chronographs, and it is often compared to the best Swiss chronographs. The original was replaced by the Datograph Up/Down in 2012, so the first-generation watch is no longer made, although the Datograph line continues.
