Sergio Godoy Di Renzo is an Argentinian architect and watch designer who is the founder and creative lead of Direnzo Watches. His professional background is rooted in architecture, a field he studied in Argentina and practiced for several years. His career eventually took him to Spain, where he co-founded the organization Barcelona Modernista, before he relocated to Geneva, Switzerland, in 2014.

While working as an architect in Geneva, Di Renzo’s interest in mechanical objects, particularly antique cameras and watches, led him to enroll in a watch design course. This experience served as the catalyst for his transition into the horological industry. In 2015, he decided to establish his own brand, officially founding Direnzo Watches in 2016. He has stated that his primary interest lies in the design and production process of objects that balance utility with a sharp aesthetic sense.

Di Renzo’s design philosophy is heavily influenced by his architectural training, emphasizing form, space, and symmetry. His collections frequently draw inspiration from the streamlined aesthetics of mid-20th-century race cars and aircraft, specifically referencing the 1940s and 1950s. This is reflected in the brand’s first release, the DRZ_Type 250F, which paid tribute to the Maserati Type 250F and was influenced by his grandfather’s history with sports cars.

The brand gained significant momentum through crowdfunding, with its first Kickstarter campaign in 2017 reaching full funding within four hours. A subsequent campaign for the DRZ_02 model achieved its target in less than a minute. Under Di Renzo’s direction, Direnzo Watches has become known for its “staged dials” and measured proportions, utilizing Swiss assembly and mechanical movements from manufacturers such as Sellita and Seiko.

Based in Geneva, Di Renzo continues to lead the brand, overseeing the creative direction and quality control of each new series. His work is characterized by a “neo-vintage” approach that seeks to translate classic engineering and natural phenomena, such as solar eclipses, into contemporary, functional timepieces.
