Mr. Liao JiaMing is the founder and principal visionary behind San Martin, an independent watch brand established in 2016. Originally a watch enthusiast and veteran collector, Liao transitioned into watchmaking with the goal of creating high-quality timepieces that balanced traditional craftsmanship with accessible pricing. His early professional journey was defined by a hands-on approach to manufacturing; at the brand’s inception in Zhongshan, Guangdong Province, he personally studied engineering drawings and immersed himself in the technical processes of case processing, dial manufacturing, and assembly within local factories.
Under Liao’s leadership, the company moved to Dongguan City in 2017 to leverage the region’s robust horological infrastructure and senior engineering talent. He was instrumental in shifting the brand’s focus from producing homage watches to developing original designs, a transition marked by the acquisition of several independent design and structural patents. Liao’s commitment to technical advancement is further evidenced by his collaboration with the Chongqing University Watch Design Institute and his use of specialized materials, such as Damascus steel, in domestic watch production.
Beyond the technical development of San Martin, Liao has expanded his entrepreneurial footprint by launching Jianghun, a high-end sister brand that emphasizes traditional Chinese cultural elements and premium craftsmanship. He remains deeply involved in the daily operations of his enterprises, often engaging directly with the enthusiast community to share knowledge about watchmaking. Today, Liao is recognized as a key figure in the modernization of the Chinese watch industry, having grown his venture from a small personal studio into a globally recognized brand known for its rigorous quality control and technical specifications.
