Mark Streit is a prominent Swiss entrepreneur and former professional ice hockey defenseman whose career is marked by pioneering achievements in the National Hockey League. Born on December 11, 1977, in Bern, Switzerland, Streit began his professional journey in the Swiss Nationalliga A before moving to North America. After being drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in 2004, he established himself as the first Swiss field player to achieve long-term success in the NHL, eventually playing 786 regular-season games and recording 434 points across tenures with the Canadiens, New York Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers, and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Streit’s leadership was recognized throughout his career, notably serving as the captain of the Swiss national team at multiple Olympic Games and World Championships. In 2011, he became the first Swiss-born player to be named captain of an NHL franchise while with the New York Islanders.
