Jean-Sébastien Coste

Jean-Sébastien Coste is a French entrepreneur and horological enthusiast recognized for his role in reviving historic diving watch brands. His professional background is diverse, spanning journalism at Agence France-Presse (AFP) and a corporate career as the head of the Africa and Middle East region for the mobile phone brand Alcatel.

Coste’s interest in watchmaking began in his youth, influenced by his father’s appreciation for mechanical precision and punctuality. This personal interest eventually transitioned into a professional pursuit centered on the restoration of heritage brands. In 2014, he successfully relaunched the Triton watch brand, known for its technical diving instruments.

Following the relaunch of Triton, Coste turned his attention to Le Forban Sécurité Mer, a French brand founded in 1969 that had historically equipped the French Navy before disappearing from the market. In 2019, alongside co-founder Océane Jolivet, he officially revived the brand. Under his leadership, the company focuses on creating mechanical tool watches that blend vintage aesthetics with modern specifications, such as sapphire crystals and regulated automatic movements.

Coste’s approach to the industry emphasizes small-volume production, high-quality standards, and accessibility. Based in Paris, the brand oversees the assembly, testing, and adjustment of its timepieces in French workshops, specifically in Rennes. His work with Le Forban is characterized by a commitment to preserving the brand’s maritime DNA while offering competitive pricing for the enthusiast market. Outside of his horological ventures, Coste is an avid traveler and collector of vintage cars.
