Benjamin James Adams

Benjamin James Adams is a British watch designer and entrepreneur who founded the independent watch brand Benjamin James in 2023. Based in the United Kingdom, Adams established the company following nearly a decade of experience in the horological industry, where he previously served as a lead designer and head of product development for other English watch brands, including Geckota and its sub-brand FORZO. During this period, he contributed to the development of over 20 watch collections.

Adams’ interest in horology was established at a young age, heavily influenced by his grandfather’s personal style and preference for classically sized timepieces. This background informs his brand’s design philosophy, which emphasizes smaller proportions and vintage-inspired aesthetics. His professional approach is characterized by a “design-first” methodology, often focusing on minute refinements to case dimensions and dial details to achieve visual balance.

The debut collection from Benjamin James, known as the Scarifour, reflects Adams’ personal history and appreciation for rectangular designs from the 1970s and 1980s. The name Scarifour is derived from his childhood home in the English countryside, and the dial features a chevron motif inspired by the coat of arms of his hometown, Cheltenham. This collection was designed to provide an accessible alternative to luxury rectangular watches, utilizing both Swiss-made Sellita mechanical movements and Ronda quartz movements.

Under Adams’ leadership, Benjamin James initially sought funding via Kickstarter before transitioning to an independent release model. The brand is managed as a family-run business, with Adams overseeing the design, logistics, and fulfillment of orders. His work is recognized within the enthusiast community for its focus on wearability and its rejection of the trend toward oversized watches, maintaining a commitment to traditional craftsmanship and refined proportions.
