Frederique Constant is a Swiss watch brand founded in 1988, when Dutch couple Aletta and Peter Stas began designing their own watch collection. Its first line, the 18th Century Collection, followed in 1992. In 1994 the brand introduced the Heart Beat, an aperture on the dial that reveals the heart of the mechanical movement and later became its signature. The founders moved to Carouge, Geneva, in 1997, acquired Alpina in 2002 and launched their first in-house caliber, the FC-910, in 2004. A Manufacture building in Plan-les-Ouates opened in 2006. In 2016, Citizen Watch Co. acquired the Frederique Constant Group.
Today Frederique Constant presents itself as a maker of accessible luxury watches, with the stated mission of making luxury timepieces available to as many people as possible. Its range includes the Classics line, which the brand calls one of its pillars, along with the Highlife, Slimline and Manufacture collections. The brand has developed more than thirty in-house movements, including the 40 Hz Slimline Monolithic Manufacture of 2021, and it made its first appearance at Watches and Wonders in 2023. On its official US store, prices run from about USD 1,500 for Classics models to around USD 5,000 for Manufacture moonphase models.
