The Voutilainen KV20i Reversed is a hand-wound watch whose movement is turned over so that the gear train, balance and escapement face the wearer. The round case measures 39 mm across and 13.38 mm thick, with a concave bezel, individually soldered teardrop lugs and a caseback held by six screws. Water resistance is 30 m. Sapphire crystals with anti-reflective treatment are fitted front and back. The open dial side shows the hours and minutes on gold hands with blued, openworked tips, framed by a blue minute ring with polished gold dots at the quarters. Small seconds are displayed on the caseback side. The in-house calibre KV20i measures 30 mm and has 31 jewels. It uses a direct impulse escapement with two blued escape wheels and a 13.5 mm free-sprung balance with rose gold timing weights, beating at 18,000 vph. The balance spring has a Phillips terminal curve and a Grossmann inner curve. Power reserve was given as about 60 hours at launch.
Launched in 2024, the KV20i Reversed replaces the earlier Vingt-8 Inverse and its 28TI calibre. The new movement moves the escapement to 12 o’clock and uses a single-arm balance cock in place of the previous full bridge. The German silver plates and bridges are hand-finished, and the power reserve indicator of the 28TI was dropped. Cases are offered in stainless steel, rose gold, white gold, platinum and titanium, usually on a hand-sewn crocodile strap. Prices at launch, excluding VAT, were CHF 118,800 in steel, CHF 121,600 in rose gold and CHF 124,800 in white gold or platinum.
The KV20i Reversed won the Men’s Watch Prize at the 2024 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. Deployant agreed with the jury and described the movement finishing as top level. In a hands-on review for Hodinkee, Mark Kauzlarich praised the construction, the legibility of the open dial, the escapement and the comfort of the curved lugs, but noted the case is noticeably thick, that the brand’s guilloché dial is absent and that the openworking is more restrained than on the 28TI. Monochrome called the design simpler than its predecessor but still distinctive. As of October 2026 the KV20i Reversed remains in Voutilainen’s regular collection and is made in small numbers to order.
