About this watch

The Van Cleef & Arpels Lady Arpels Pont des Amoureux, introduced in 2010, is a poetic-complication watch in which two small figures, a man and a woman, stand on opposite sides of a bridge and move toward each other. The hours and minutes are shown by the retrograde movement of the figures, and they meet for a kiss at midnight. The case is gold with diamonds, and the dial is decorated with enamel or other materials depending on the edition. I did not find reliable dimensions for the first edition.

The watch is part of the house’s Poetic Complications, which use mechanical movements to tell stories. The design has been reissued in several versions with different times of day, including Aube, Jour, Printemps and Soirée.

The community regards the Pont des Amoureux as a prime example of watchmaking as jewellery and storytelling, and collectors treasure the early editions. The model remains in the brand’s catalogue in new versions.
