About this watch

The Ulysse Nardin Astrolabium Galileo Galilei, presented in 1985, is an astronomical wristwatch that displays the positions of the sun and moon against the zodiac, together with the time, and shows the moon phases and tides, as an astrolabe does. It was designed by Ludwig Oechslin, who set the whole complication on the dial and adjusted it through the crown, and it is a hand-built, small-series piece in gold. I could not find reliable sources for case size and movement details, so they are not given here.

It is the first of the “Trilogy of Time”, followed by the Planetarium Copernicus and the Tellurium Johannes Kepler. The series revived Ulysse Nardin’s name in the late 1980s and gave the brand its reputation for innovation in astronomical watchmaking.

Collectors and auction houses treat the Astrolabium as a landmark of the mechanical revival. The 1985 model is no longer made.
