The Tudor Pelagos reference 25500TN, launched in 2012, is a diving watch with a 42 mm titanium case and bracelet, a unidirectional rotating bezel, a helium escape valve and a water-resistance rating of 500 metres. It runs an automatic movement based on the ETA 2824-2, and the dial has large luminous markers and a date window. The bracelet has a clasp with a spring extension that adjusts over a wetsuit.
Tudor describes the Pelagos as a professional diver, and it was the brand’s first titanium watch. Its name comes from the Greek word for open sea, and the model is widely linked in the press with the French Navy’s use of Tudor divers, although I did not confirm a specific Pelagos military order.
The community praised the Pelagos for its lightweight titanium and strong specifications at a price below similar Rolex models. Tudor replaced the 25500TN in 2015 with the 25600TN, which has the in-house MT5612 movement, so the original is no longer produced.
