About this watch

The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph reference CBS2216.BA0041 is the panda-dial version of the 39 mm glassbox Carrera. The brushed and polished steel case has no external bezel and is 13.9 mm thick according to TAG Heuer and about 46 mm lug to lug according to aBlogtoWatch, with pump pushers and water resistance to 100 m. A domed sapphire crystal curves down over the dial flange, where the black 60-second chronograph scale is printed, and a sapphire case back shows the movement. The silver sunray-brushed dial has applied polished hour markers, black snailed sub-dials for 30 minutes and 12 hours, a printed small seconds at 6 o’clock with a framed date, and red accents on the chronograph and sub-dial hands. Inside is the in-house automatic calibre TH20-00, a column-wheel chronograph with vertical clutch that runs at 28,800 vph (4 Hz) and has an 80-hour power reserve.

TAG Heuer relaunched the Carrera chronograph with the glassbox crystal in 2023, drawing on the 1960s Carreras designed under Jack Heuer. The silver-and-black colourway recalls Heuer Carreras such as the late-1960s ref. 7753 SN, where S stood for silver and N for noir. Presented at Watches and Wonders 2024, the CBS2216.BA0041 was also the first 39 mm glassbox Carrera chronograph on a steel bracelet. The three-row bracelet has polished and brushed links and a push-button folding clasp. Its skeletonised rotor is shaped like the TAG Heuer shield. The launch price was USD 6,500. TAG Heuer US now lists it at USD 7,450.

aBlogtoWatch’s Mike Razak noted that the glassbox Carrera had been met with almost unanimous acclaim. He said the case wears easily and feels less top-heavy on the new bracelet than on a strap. He liked how the contrasting black chronograph scale under the sloping crystal sets this model apart from the other glassbox chronographs. His criticisms were that the bracelet lacks both TAG Heuer’s micro-adjustment clasp and a quick-release system. He also personally preferred the existing blue and black dials to the panda. He called it the most affordable automatic chronograph among the major heritage chronograph brands, undercutting the Daytona, Zenith Chronomaster and Speedmaster, with a longer power reserve. As of October 2026 the CBS2216.BA0041 remains in TAG Heuer’s catalogue and is in production, though it was shown as out of stock online.
