About this watch

The Rolex GMT-Master II reference 16710, introduced around 1989, has a 40 mm stainless steel Oyster case, a rotating 24-hour bezel with an aluminium insert, a sapphire crystal and a water resistance of 100 metres. It runs the automatic calibre 3185, later the 3186, with a GMT hand that can be set independently of the local hour hand, which is what separates it from the original GMT-Master. The bezel came in black, red-and-blue “Pepsi” and red-and-black “Coke”, and the bracelet was a steel Oyster or Jubilee.

The independent hour hand made it useful for tracking a third time zone, and Rolex made the 16710 for nearly two decades with only small changes. It was succeeded by the ceramic-bezel ref. 116710LN in 2007.

Collectors prize the 16710 as the last GMT-Master II with an aluminium bezel, and the Pepsi and Coke versions are among the most wanted. The reference is no longer produced.
