The Tourbillon Atelier is the second model from Rémy Cools, a French independent watchmaker based near Lake Annecy. The case is 950 platinum, 39 mm in diameter and 12 mm thick including a 3 mm domed box sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. There is a sapphire caseback, the crown sits at 3 o’clock and water resistance is 30 m. The off-centred dial shows hours and minutes on a silver chapter ring with hand-printed black numerals, above a frosted plate in either a yellow gold or rose gold colour, with hand-polished steel hands. The hand-wound in-house calibre measures 33 mm by 9 mm and has 235 components. It runs at 2.5 Hz (18,000 vph), with a 60-second tourbillon in a 13.2 mm carriage at 6 o’clock, a hand-formed Breguet hairspring and a 50-hour power reserve according to the maker.
The Atelier replaced the Tourbillon Souscription, Cools’ first commercial watch from 2020, which had a 40 mm by 15 mm case, a 5 mm crystal and flip-up winding keys on the back. Monochrome noted that the new model is smaller and thinner and moves the crown to the conventional 3 o’clock position. All decoration is done by hand, including micro-blasted surfaces, stepped bridges and a finished ratchet wheel. The watch comes on a calfskin strap with an engraved platinum pin buckle. It was presented in late 2023 as a numbered series of 36 pieces across both dial colours, priced at EUR 159,000 and sold directly by the workshop, which makes about 12 watches a year.
The Tourbillon Atelier won the Horological Revelation Prize at the GPHG 2024. Monochrome called it more mature and more elegant than the Souscription while keeping a very high level of finish, and said it wears well. Several Monochrome readers objected to the price, noting it was roughly double that of the 2020 model, and some preferred the more unusual Souscription. Galerie and The Hour Glass have since published profiles of Cools and his workshop. As of October 2026 the Tourbillon Atelier remains a limited series of 36 numbered pieces made in small annual batches by the workshop.
