About this watch

The Piaget Polo 79, reference G0A49150, is an all-gold revival of the 1979 Polo designed under Yves Piaget. The lugless, cushion-like case measures 38 mm across and 7.45 mm thick and is made of 18k yellow gold, with alternating polished and satin-brushed horizontal gadroons that run from the case into the integrated bracelet. Water resistance is 50 metres (5 bar), and a sapphire caseback shows the movement. The gold dial repeats the gadroon pattern and carries only hours and minutes hands and the Piaget signature. Inside is the in-house calibre 1200P1, an ultra-thin self-winding movement about 2.35 mm thick with a gold micro-rotor, 25 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vph and a 44-hour power reserve.

Piaget launched the watch in February 2024 as part of its 150th anniversary. Compared with the 34 mm quartz original, the new case is 4 mm larger and moves the crown from the caseback to the side of the case. The solid gold bracelet closes with a hidden folding clasp, and the complete watch weighs about 200 grams, almost all of it gold. The launch price was USD 73,000 (EUR 81,500 including VAT in Europe). Piaget’s US website listed it at USD 85,000 before sales tax as of October 2026. A white gold version followed in 2025 under a separate reference.

The Polo 79 was one of the most discussed integrated-bracelet launches of 2024. aBlogtoWatch described it as a faithful reinterpretation of the 1979 design. Fratello’s writer said he doubted anything at Watches and Wonders 2024 would top it for him, and praised the case and bracelet construction and the movement finishing. Common criticism centres on the weight and the overtly gold look, which some readers call flashy, and on the modest 44-hour power reserve. One review also noted that the Etachron regulator looks plain next to the rest of the calibre. Price is the other recurring complaint, especially after increases since launch. The Polo 79 in yellow gold remains in production as part of the regular Piaget Polo collection as of October 2026.
