Cartier Tank Américaine 1989

The Cartier Tank Américaine, introduced in 1989, is a curved variant of the Tank with an elongated rectangular case and a case that bends to follow the wrist. It has the Tank’s brancards, a sapphire cabochon crown and a Roman-numeral dial, and it was offered in gold and steel, with quartz and automatic movements, in several sizes. I could not find reliable official figures for the 1989 sizes, so they are not stated here.
The name refers to the United States, where the curved style was popular, and the Américaine took the Tank away from its 1917 flat shape. It sat alongside the Tank Louis Cartier, the Tank Française and the Tank Must in the Tank family.
Collectors like the Américaine for its wearability and its relatively moderate price among Cartier Tanks. The model remains in production, with modern versions in the current Cartier collection.
