Bernard Julemont is a prominent Belgian entrepreneur and watchmaking enthusiast best known for founding the Raidillon watch brand. Born in Brussels, Julemont developed an early appreciation for fine mechanics, specifically the intersection of high-quality horology and motor racing. His professional background in the watch industry began in the 1990s, where he gained significant experience working with established houses such as IWC-Porsche Design. In 1996, he furthered his expertise by becoming the Belgian importer for the Swiss brand Dubey and Schaldenbrand.
In 2001, Julemont realized his vision of creating a Belgian-designed watch brand entirely dedicated to the spirit of automobile racing. He founded Raidillon, naming the company after the famous “Raidillon de l’Eau Rouge” curve at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. The brand officially debuted in June 2001 at the Belgian track, reflecting Julemont’s goal of blending Swiss mechanical precision with innovative Belgian design. Under his leadership, Raidillon established a unique brand identity centered on limited production runs; notably, each model is limited to 55 pieces, a number referencing the number of cars allowed in the Spa 24-hour race.
Julemont’s approach to the brand emphasized high-value specifications, including the use of self-winding Swiss movements and artisanal Belgian-made leather straps. He was instrumental in establishing the brand’s commercial presence, opening a flagship boutique in the Galerie de la Reine in Brussels and expanding into international markets. His creative direction focused on “chic sporty” aesthetics and technical excellence, often incorporating design elements reminiscent of racing car dashboard instruments.
Throughout his tenure, Julemont remained committed to the core values of quality, exclusivity, and style. His work with Raidillon helped revitalize Belgian interest in independent horology and carved out a niche for timepieces that celebrate the heritage of motorsport. Today, Julemont is recognized as a pivotal figure in the contemporary Belgian watch scene, having successfully transitioned from an industry professional to the founder of a distinct luxury marque.
