Mercer

Mercer Watch Co. is an American microbrand founded in 2014 by Scott Vuocolo. Headquartered in Princeton, New Jersey, the brand’s identity is deeply rooted in American history, specifically the Revolutionary War. The company is named after Brigadier General Hugh Mercer, a physician and soldier who served in the Continental Army and died at the Battle of Princeton. This heritage is reflected in the brand’s logo, which features a star motif on the crown to represent the rank of a brigadier general.

Vuocolo, a history enthusiast with a background in the sciences, established the brand with the goal of producing high-quality mechanical timepieces at an accessible price point. By selling directly to consumers, Mercer aims to offer watches with specifications and finishing typically found in more expensive luxury brands. Enthusiasts are often drawn to the brand for its transparent value proposition and its ability to blend classic, dressier aesthetics with the robustness of a modern tool watch. Many of their models offer features like sapphire crystals, reliable Japanese or Swiss movements, and water resistance levels that allow for versatile daily wear.

The brand’s catalog began with its flagship model, the Brigadier. This piece established Mercer’s design language with its signature polished bezel, onion-style crown, and a multi-layered dial featuring a central guilloché pattern. Following the success of the original Brigadier, the company expanded its collection to include several other key pieces. These include the Lexington, a vintage-inspired bi-compax chronograph utilizing a mecha-quartz movement; the Nomad GMT, designed for travelers; the Voyager, a dedicated dive watch; and the Airfoil, a pilot-inspired timepiece. For their fifth anniversary, the brand released the Madison, a limited-edition hand-wound piece that pays homage to early 20th-century trench watches and features a vintage French ebauche movement.
