Lang & Heyne

Lang & Heyne is an independent high-end watch manufacturer based in Dresden, Germany, that has established a reputation for preserving and modernizing traditional Saxon watchmaking. The company was founded in 2001 by Marco Lang and Mirko Heyne, two watchmakers who aimed to revive the artisanal techniques of 18th and 19th-century Saxon court watchmakers. Marco Lang, a fifth-generation watchmaker, brought a deep family heritage to the brand, while Mirko Heyne contributed his technical expertise before departing the company shortly after its inception. Today, the manufacture operates as part of the Tempus Arte Group and continues to produce a very limited number of timepieces—typically between 150 and 200 units per year—ensuring a high level of exclusivity and attention to detail.

Collectors and enthusiasts are drawn to Lang & Heyne for its uncompromising commitment to manual craftsmanship and vertical integration. Approximately 97 percent of the brand’s movement components are manufactured in-house, a rarity in modern horology. Each timepiece undergoes an extensive hand-finishing process, including black polishing, perlage, and the use of traditional materials like solid silver and gold for bridges and plates. A signature aesthetic of the brand is the “trigonal” bridge architecture, which offers a clear view of the gear train, and the inclusion of a third centralized lug on the watch case. This dedication to “Made in Dresden” authenticity and the preservation of historic finishing standards has made the brand a favorite among those who value traditional German precision.

The Lang & Heyne catalog is defined by several key models, most of which are named after historical Saxon rulers. The Friedrich III is one of the brand’s most recognized pieces, featuring the Caliber VI movement with its distinctive trigonal bridge and a classic enamel dial. The Georg represents the brand’s foray into non-round cases, offering a rectangular design with a curved profile and an architectural movement that emphasizes symmetry and depth. In 2021, the brand introduced the Hektor, its first integrated-bracelet sports watch crafted in stainless steel, marking a more contemporary direction while maintaining the brand’s high finishing standards. Other notable pieces include the Anton, which showcases a flying tourbillon, and the Moritz, which features a complex calendar with a unique moon phase and earth disk display.
