Glashütte Original

Glashütte Original is a prestigious German watch manufactory located in Glashütte, Saxony. The brand’s heritage is inextricably linked to the founding of the Saxon watchmaking industry in 1845, when master watchmakers such as Ferdinand Adolph Lange, Moritz Grossman, Julius Assmann, and Adolf Schneider first established their workshops in the region. Following the reunification of Germany, the modern company was established in 1994 as the legal successor to the state-owned VEB Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe (GUB), which had consolidated the region’s watchmaking entities during the GDR era. Since 2000, the brand has operated as a key member of the Swatch Group.

The brand is highly regarded by enthusiasts for its exceptional vertical integration and commitment to traditional craftsmanship. Glashütte Original manufactures approximately 95% of its movement components in-house, including its own dials, which are produced at a dedicated facility in Pforzheim. Collectors are particularly drawn to the brand’s preservation of classic Saxon horological hallmarks, such as the three-quarter plate, screw balance, swan-neck fine adjustment, and hand-engraved balance cocks. This combination of artisanal finishing and technical independence positions the brand as a distinctive alternative in the high-end luxury watch market.

The current catalog is structured into five distinct collections that showcase the brand’s range: Senator, Pano, Spezialist, Vintage, and Serenade. One of the brand’s most recognizable key pieces is the PanoMaticLunar, which features an iconic asymmetric dial layout and a signature moon phase display. The Senator Excellence series is another cornerstone, known for its high-precision movements and the proprietary Panorama Date. For those interested in tool watches, the SeaQ diver from the Spezialist collection offers a robust design inspired by the brand’s historical skin divers from the 1960s. Additionally, the Vintage collection includes the popular Sixties and Seventies models, which celebrate the design aesthetics of those specific eras with bold colors and retro case shapes.
