About this watch

The Yema Superman 500 is the current version of the dive watch that made the brand’s name, the Yema Superman 1963. Introduced at the end of June 2022, it comes in 39 mm and 41 mm polished steel cases and is water resistant to 500 metres. Deployant notes that the bezel was redesigned with micro-drilling for a better click spring and more precise insert alignment, and that the signature bezel lock was updated. The dial has no date and uses arrow hands with a shovel-shaped seconds hand, with Grade A Super-LumiNova on the hands, indices and bezel marker. Inside is the second-generation in-house YEMA2000 automatic, rated at ±10 seconds a day with a 42-hour power reserve. It is sold on leather, rubber or a steel bracelet from US$1,049. The wider Superman family includes the Superman 500 GMT, bronze and gilt versions with the CMM.10 calibre, and the 39 mm Superman Slim, which has the in-house CMM.20 micro-rotor with 70 hours of power reserve and was quoted at US$2,490 on its slim bracelet.

Enthusiasts see the modern Superman as an affordable way into a dive watch with real heritage. Deployant called the Superman 500 an “aesthetically pleasing watch” and liked that it keeps the Superman look while dropping the date for a cleaner dial. It found the rubber strap extremely comfortable and the deployant clasp solid and well made. The same review had reservations: a polished case scratches easily on a tool watch, the printed bezel markers wore off after light use, and competition at this price is getting tougher. Time+Tide said the Superman Bronze CMM.10 set a new standard for budget bronze watches, and owner reviews often praise the CMM.20 Superman Slim for its slim profile.

The Superman is still Yema‘s core collection and is in production, with regular new references, materials and limited editions. Exact sizes and prices vary by reference.
