About this watch

The Vacheron Constantin Historiques 222 in stainless steel, reference 4200H/222A-B934, is a time-and-date sports watch with an integrated bracelet. The steel case measures 37 mm in diameter and 7.95 mm thick, with a sharply fluted bezel, alternating brushed and polished surfaces and a small Maltese cross in white gold set at 5 o’clock. Water resistance is 5 bar (50 m). The matte blue dial carries applied baton markers and baton hands in 18k white gold, both filled with Super-LumiNova, and a date window at 3 o’clock. A sapphire crystal covers the dial and a sapphire caseback shows the in-house Calibre 2455/2, a self-winding movement running at 4 Hz (28,800 vph) with a 40-hour power reserve. The movement carries the Hallmark of Geneva, and its 18k gold rotor is engraved with the original 222 logo.

The watch revives the integrated-bracelet 222 of 1977. Vacheron Constantin reissued the 222 in yellow gold in 2022 and presented this steel version in January 2025 to open its 270th anniversary year; the caseback carries an anniversary signature. Compared with the original, the movement beats faster (4 Hz instead of 2.75 Hz), the date window sits slightly closer to the centre so it clears the minute track, and the bracelet joints were redesigned to hide the pins. The integrated steel bracelet uses hexagonal centre links and a triple-blade folding clasp. The launch price was USD 32,000 (EUR 35,600 including VAT), and the watch is sold only through Vacheron Constantin boutiques.

Press coverage was largely positive about the design and the bracelet. aBlogtoWatch praised the finishing and articulation of the bracelet and the faithful proportions, but preferred the date position of the 1977 original. Watch Advice scored it 8.95 out of 10, liking the matte blue dial and the case finishing while criticising the lack of bracelet micro-adjustment, the 50 m water resistance and the plain look of the movement. Worn & Wound found the blue dial somewhat generic, described the USD 32,000 price as eye-watering though unsurprising, and questioned whether a 270-year-old brand should chase the integrated-bracelet trend. Demand stayed strong, and secondary-market asking prices sat well above retail through 2025. The steel 222 is not a limited edition and remains in production as part of the Historiques collection, as of October 2026.
