About this watch

The Rolex Day-Date 40 ref. 228235JG is the first watch in Jubilee Gold, a new 18 ct alloy that Rolex developed and casts in-house. The Oyster case is 40 mm in diameter, with a fluted bezel, a sapphire crystal and 100 m water resistance, and both case and bracelet are in Jubilee Gold. The dial is light green aventurine, a natural stone from the quartz family rather than aventurine glass. WatchesBySJX describes it as almost jade green, with natural inclusions that make each dial slightly different. The printing and applied coronet sit under several layers of clear lacquer. The ten hour markers are baguette-cut diamonds. The watch uses the self-winding calibre 3255 at 28,800 vph (4 Hz), with about 70 hours of power reserve. It has the Chronergy escapement, a Parachrom hairspring with an overcoil and bidirectional winding, and it is certified as a Superlative Chronometer to plus or minus 2 seconds per day. It shows hours, minutes, seconds, the date and the day of the week spelled out in full.

Rolex presented the watch at Watches and Wonders 2026, the Oyster case’s centenary year. According to WatchesBySJX, Jubilee Gold is Rolex’s first new gold alloy since Everose in 2005. Time+Watches says it combines yellow, grey and pink tones, and SJX places its colour between yellow and pink gold. The watch comes on the President bracelet in the same alloy. Time+Watches gave the launch price as USD 62,700 and EUR 60,850. SJX’s July 2026 review quoted USD 65,700 excluding taxes.

WatchesBySJX said the stone dial and new alloy give the watch a distinctive look that still fits the Day-Date line. It called the calibre 3255 a class-leading platform and the watch a strong value if it were easy to buy. It also said the release was less innovative than Rolex’s enamel-dial Daytona, the case changes little beyond the colour of the gold and the movement is undecorated. It admitted that calling a time-only watch at this price good value might seem disingenuous. Time+Watches covered it among Rolex’s 2026 novelties. As of October 2026, the Day-Date 40 Jubilee Gold is in production as part of the Rolex catalogue.
