About this watch

The Harry Winston Opus 1, released in 2001, is the first of the Opus series, an annual collaboration between Harry Winston Timepieces and an independent watchmaker. Opus 1 was developed with Frédéric Jourdain and made in a limited run, in platinum. The sources I found do not agree on the full specification of the movement, so it is not given here.

The Opus idea was led by Maximilian Büsser, then Harry Winston’s head of timepieces, who later founded MB&F. Each Opus was designed to hand a watchmaker creative freedom rather than follow a catalogue, and Opus 1 started the series. It was later followed by Opus 2 and by a succession of watches with other makers.

Collectors treat the Opus series as an important moment in contemporary independent watchmaking, and Opus 1 is its starting point. It was a limited release and is no longer produced.
