The Gérald Genta Gentissima Oursin Fire Opal is a gem-set version of the Oursin, a design Gérald Genta first released in 1994. The 18-carat 3N yellow gold case measures 36.5 mm in diameter and 9.64 mm thick, with a matte glass-blasted finish and water resistance of 30 m. Its wide, rounded bezel carries 137 Mexican fire opals, each fixed to the case by a yellow gold pin, and the crown is also set with a fire opal. The dial is cut from orange carnelian, with yellow gold five-minute markers and gold hands with luminous inlays, under a sapphire crystal faceted into an octagon. The automatic calibre GG-005 is based on the Zenith Elite. It has 126 components, runs at 4 Hz (28,800 vph) and has a power reserve of about 50 hours. It shows hours and minutes only.
The Oursin, French for sea urchin, came from sketches Genta made of sea urchins on holiday in Corsica. The brand was revived by LVMH and relaunched the Oursin in 2024 in DLC-coated titanium versions in black, grey and pink. The Fire Opal followed at LVMH Watch Week in January 2025 and was scheduled for delivery from May 2025. For this model the oscillating weight was redesigned as an octagonal 18-carat yellow gold rotor, visible through the caseback. The watch is fitted with a black alligator strap and a yellow gold pin buckle. No reference number was published, and the price is available on request.
Coverage was largely favourable and focused on the design. WatchesBySJX called it bright and bold and an apt evolution of the original, contrasting it with the more muted 2024 titanium models. Swisswatches described it as extravagant and a tribute to Genta’s creative vision. aBlogtoWatch called its texture and colour unconventional and openly odd, and said it will not appeal to a mass audience, which it argued is not its purpose. The watch was nominated in the Ladies’ category of the GPHG 2025. Gérald Genta describes it as a limited production rather than a numbered edition, and as of October 2026 it is offered on request through the brand.
