About this watch

The Corum Golden Bridge, introduced in 1980, is a manual-wind watch whose movement is a single straight baguette-shaped calibre, set vertically in the middle of the case and visible between two sapphire panels. It was created by the watchmaker Vincent Calabrese and was among the first to arrange a mechanical movement in a line instead of a circle. The case is gold, and there is no dial in the usual sense: the movement bars themselves serve as the display.

The idea was to show the mechanism as the design, a radical departure for 1980, and the in-line layout allowed a very slim, elongated case. I could not find reliable official figures for the very first models, so sizes and power reserve are not given here and varied between versions.

Collectors regard the Golden Bridge as Corum’s signature and one of the most original watches of the 1980s. The original 1980 watches are no longer made, but the Golden Bridge name remains in Corum’s catalogue, with modern versions in several metals.
