The Blancpain 1735 Grande Complication, launched in 1991, is an automatic wristwatch that combines a perpetual calendar, a split-seconds chronograph, a minute repeater, a tourbillon and a moon phase. It runs the automatic calibre 1735, which Blancpain presented as the most complicated automatic wristwatch in the world, in a gold case. Production was very small, reportedly around 30 pieces, and sources differ on the exact figure.
It was Blancpain’s showpiece after the brand was revived in the early 1980s, and it helped re-establish the name at the top of mechanical watchmaking. I could not find reliable sources on the development team, so none is named here.
The 1735 is regarded as a landmark of the mechanical revival, and examples are rare and are mostly seen at auctions. It is no longer in production.
