Wilfried Buiron is a French entrepreneur and the co-founder of Atelier Wen, an independent watch brand dedicated to celebrating Chinese horology and craftsmanship. Born in Hong Kong and raised there until the age of six, Buiron developed an early and lasting connection to Chinese culture. He began studying Mandarin in middle school and achieved fluency, eventually graduating from China’s top two academic institutions, Peking University and Tsinghua University. At Tsinghua, he was a member of the Schwarzman Scholars program and was selected as a Masa Son Fellow.
Buiron’s professional background is characterized by a diverse range of experience in technology, strategy, and business development. He has worked for McKinsey & Company, JD.com’s AI Innovation Studio, and several boutique consultancies in Europe and China. In 2018, while still in his early twenties, he co-founded Atelier Wen alongside his long-time friend Robin Tallendier. The duo established the brand with the mission to shift global perceptions of “Made in China” by showcasing high-end traditional crafts, such as porcelain and hand-guilloché dials, within contemporary mechanical watchmaking.
Within Atelier Wen, Buiron is often described as the “executional extraordinaire,” overseeing design coordination and manufacturing logistics from Beijing. His leadership was central to the launch of the brand’s first series, the Porcelain Odyssey, and the subsequent success of the Perception collection, which highlighted the work of master artisans. Beyond the horological industry, Buiron is also a serial entrepreneur. He is the founder and CEO of Zaapi, a technology startup building digital commerce infrastructure for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises in Southeast Asia. Through his various ventures, Buiron continues to be a prominent figure in the intersection of international business and Asian cultural development.
