Judy Chua is a central figure in the operation and growth of Vario, an independent watch and accessory brand based in Singapore. As the wife of founder Ivan Chua, she has been a foundational partner in the enterprise since its inception in 2016, transitioning from a career in the corporate sector to manage the brand’s essential daily operations.
Chua met her husband in Hong Kong, where they both worked for the same company. Following a period of long-distance relationship while Ivan established a design studio in Singapore, she eventually relocated to join him. When Ivan’s interest in watch straps evolved from a hobby into the business venture that became Vario, Chua took on a full-time role within the company.
In the brand’s organizational structure, Chua is primarily responsible for fulfillment and production oversight. Her role includes managing the logistics of shipping, personally packing orders, and conducting quality control (QC) at manufacturing facilities. She is also recognized for adding a personal touch to the customer experience by writing handwritten notes included with orders.
Beyond logistics, Chua has been a key collaborator in the brand’s strategic development. Together with Ivan, she managed the company’s early growth from their home before the business expanded to a dedicated office space in Singapore’s Orchard Plaza. Her support was instrumental during the brand’s transition from a strap-focused business to a producer of vintage-inspired mechanical timepieces, such as the 1918 Trench and Empire collections.
Today, Judy Chua continues to lead the logistical and commercial execution of Vario’s releases. Her work ensures the operational sustainability of the brand as it maintains its position in the international microbrand market, serving a global community of watch enthusiasts.
