Jérôme Mage is a French-born designer and entrepreneur based in Los Angeles, recognized for his significant contributions to the luxury eyewear and horological industries. Born in 1971 in the Auvergne region of France, Mage moved to California at age 20, where he began a prolific career in design, initially focusing on action sports and eyewear. His professional background includes a tenure as creative director for Spy Optic and the founding of his own design firm, Mage Design, in 2001, through which he collaborated with major brands such as Burton Snowboards.
In 2009, Mage co-founded the independent watch brand March LA.B alongside Alain Marhic and Joseph Chatel. Serving as the brand’s creative director, he was instrumental in establishing its “neo-vintage” aesthetic, which draws heavily from 1960s and 1970s design, American muscle cars, and French heritage. His personal interests in history—particularly the French First Empire—and vintage styling are reflected in the brand’s signature details, such as the 4 o’clock crown placement and the recurring use of the color green.
Beyond his work in horology, Mage is perhaps best known as the founder of Jacques Marie Mage (JMM), a luxury eyewear label launched in Los Angeles in 2014. Under his leadership, JMM has gained international acclaim for its commitment to high-quality craftsmanship, limited production runs, and complex manufacturing processes involving skilled artisans in Japan and Italy. The brand is characterized by its sculptural, thick-set frames and a design philosophy that prioritizes historical storytelling and rarity over mass production.
Throughout his career, Mage has maintained a reputation for blending technical functionality with a distinct artistic vision. His dual residency and influence in Biarritz and Los Angeles continue to shape the identity of his ventures, bridging the gap between European classicism and California’s modern creative culture. Today, he remains a central figure in the independent design scene, overseeing the creative trajectory of both his eyewear house and March LA.B.
